Two years ago today, when he was only a few months old, Connor went on his first flight . He flew from Ottawa to Toronto. I wasn't sure what to expect but I wasn't worried. We were lucky, the hour long flight was a breeze.
Since his first flight he's been on more than 80 more to destinations including, Canada, the USA and the Caribbean. Now that he's two, he has a more "active" role in getting ready for flights and likes to talk about going to the airport and often asks for more airplanes please! Now he even selects toys he's going to take (it's all about him having his own bag!).
I am an advocate of traveling with your children, infants and older. With planning and flexibility, it can be done. I learnt on that first flight, that yes, there are some people who won't be happy to see a baby traveling, but for the most part people are helpful and curious to know how old the baby is, whether it's the first flight etc. There are of course challenges to traveling with children, but isn't that what being a parent is all about? If you are prepared for them you will be fine!
My husband and I have been very fortunate, Connor has a great disposition and is a content traveler. I've discovered a number of tips along the way and I am enjoying sharing them. I hope that you too have found them to be helpful in your own travels.
